What is LearningTargets?
LearningTargets is a simple classroom management tool designed to be projected in front of the class or viewed by students at their workstations.
LearningTargets consists of a single webpage that is divided into four regions:
- Today's Learning Targets (objectives) - From the moment the student walks into your classroom they know what the goal is. Many experts suggest writing your learning targets with very specific and kid friendly language starting with “I can…”
- Today's Directions - This is a place to write out pre-class directions and give a general outline of the class. Students can walk in get started immediately.
- GBEC / PBIS - GBEC (Guidelines and Behavioral Expectations in Context) is a behavioral matrix system designed to be used in conjunction with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support - www.pbis.org). PBIS refers to systems and individualized supports and interventions that help students enhance and improve their productive social behavior while reducing problematic behaviors. In the classroom PBIS includes clear behavioral expectations and routines across classroom contexts, as represented in the GBEC matrix.
- Countdown Timer - Use the timer to visually and auditory mark transitions in your class. A ten-second instrumental music piece plays when time is expired signaling to students that they need be in their chair, class is over, please put your pencils down, please pay attention, etc. The ten-second audio also allows students time to finish their sentence, move back to their chair, etc.

LearningTargets has been designed to have minimal distraction
and is formatted for easy viewing when projected.
Think Time
Another critical component of the PBIS is what is sometimes referred to as "Think Time". To learn more about Think Time and to print out Think Time debriefing forms click here.
